Final Project for PBW

Dear Students,
So far this semester, descriptive and narrative become your favorite paragraphs. Both kinds simply say about description of certain object or narrate an inspired story. Therefore, please compose an expository paragraph, a simple and clear text.

As Boardman stated in Writing to Communicate (1990: 4-7) about expository, that … the goal of expository writing is to explain something to the reader. You can explain something in many ways. Some of these are:
1. by comparing two things or people (e.g buildings, political leaders, economic theories)
2. by showing the steps in a process (e.g how to increase profits, how to evaluate a painting)
3. by analyzing something
dividing something into its parts (e.g different theories of learning, different kinds of governments)
analyzing a problem (e.g global warming, nuclear power, high divorce rates)
4. by persuading
trying to make others do something (e.g stop smoking, sign a petition, join an organization)
5. arguing for your opinion (e.g American cars vs. Foreign cars, the pros and cons of giving grades in school).

Students may choose either comparing, showing the steps, persuading or analyzing things to be the purpose of the text. Please read the handout as your references before you begin to write.

The topic for the project would be your free choice, say for example; describing the tips of traveling, steps to apply internet modem to notebook or explanation about certain object or persuade the reader through your text about specific idea.

Last, upload your paragraph on web blog just before January 5th, feel free to contact me for further information.

Good Luck!
